SLEEP: Soho House, Barcelona

Just back from Barcelona – a quick trip with my mum as I've promised to take her there for ages, and she's never been. I'm not a member of Soho House, but you don't need to be to book a stay at its outposts around the world.

There's good news... and there's bad news. Good news: I loved it, even in our "Tiny" room (plenty enough for us). Bad news: mum loved it, too, and seems to think all future trips should be Soho House standard.

We spent almost all of our time exclusively between the amazing (guests and members-only) rooftop pool with its beautiful marble bar top and views across the city, and the open-to-all ground floor restaurant, Cecconi's. Where we ate... Italian. Forget the paella, we were all about the aubergine parmigiana, pizza and pasta. When in Rome...

More good news: I fell in love with the lights in our room, then found out they're available to buy on the Soho House Home website (proceed at your own risk). They've just arrived in their boxes ready to add a Barcelona flourish to my own never-ending flat renovation.

Bad news: they cost more than the hotel room.
